For those who are wondering The French brothers Michel (age 4) and Edmond Navratil (age 2) were abducted from their mother, Marcelle, by their father, who boarded the Titanic under a false name to flee to America. When the ship sank, their father placed the boys into a lifeboat before perishing, leaving the young French-speaking children unclaimed as the "Titanic Orphans" in New York until their mother recognized them in newspaper photos and reunited with them on May 16, 1912.

Dispite both parents fighting, they each love their kids over their own desires. Thats a lot more than many divorced parents today.

I did a little research. Here. Actually, Marcelle Caretto (wife and mother of kids) was the one who filed for divorce due to domestic violence, abuse, and her husband's pathological jealousy. Her husband, Michel Navratil, accused her of infidelity in return, claiming he had "proof," but NO evidence was ever presented to the court. At the time, Navratil was completely BANKRUPT, with debts exceeding 31,000 francs. His financial ruin and a desire for revenge against his ex-wife (who won full custody) are exactly what drove him to kidnap the boys and board the Titanic. The ultimate proof of her innocence came right before the ship sank. Navratil put his eldest son, Michel Jr., into a lifeboat and gave him a final message for Marcelle. He told the boy to tell his mother that he still loved her and held no grudges. This deathbed confession proved that his accusations of cheating were nothing but a paranoid lie. Tragically, Marcelle never married again.

I read a book about this, it was heartbreaking. The husband was apparently an abuser. She filed a court case against him but when he found out he decided to make a run for it, taking the kids with him.
