βBottle of waterβ in Japanese π
Friendly fire
Itβs funny bc hotel in Japanese is also βhoteruβ
Itβs like Rock Bottom from SpongeBob
Yup i remember a cashier not understanding "hot" drink. I literally had to say "hotto" to be understood.
The most funniest thing if you know how to speak in japanese is . Most of the sentences are mixed with English lmao and also most of the sentences are translated into katakana even tho it's supposed to be for foreign words ππ
As someone who is learning japanese, and has been to japan, almost all of katakana works this way. βDabaru cheezu baaga to em saizu coki coraaβ is an actual mcdonalds order
Wait till he learns about German
Godzilla is literally this (Gojira for those wondering)
It's almost like touristy words were brought there by... Tourists
There's an interesting reason for this. When a foreign word is borrowed in japanese, they use the japanese sound system to pronounce it, which only has a set number of possible sounds. So if you say the word without the japanese intonation, it will sound different enough that they won't understand you. So happens there are a LOT of english words adopted into japanese.
Thatβs actually how they be saying card
In Greece, when you want a Radler (very light alcoholic beverage), they won't understand you. You have to stretch that last r for so long or else they won't understand. Also, if you want a burger, you need to say "Berrger" , which sounds absolutely ridiculous and gets me mad every time I'm going there to visit family and wanna order something
Some mf said β friendly fireβππ
Same thing with Korean. Sometimes, I get really confused why there is a language barrier between saying Ba(h)nana and Banana when they literally sound the fucking same.
Horace from fresh off boat!!!!
Thats just Romaji. Romanization of Ji. Ji of KanJi, Kan = Han = han china basically Ji is characters. So basically George becomes βJojiβ coz itβs the closest sounding of George in japanese words. And itβs not KATAKANA. Katakana is just an alternative characters to hiragana. Idk why it exist but it looks cool.
The sole reason I know the word for "card" in Japanese is because of the yugioh anime. Specifically, the episode that I watched in the dub that was Yugi & Weevil's duel in the Oricalcos arc.
That's how most languages work. When a word is introduced to a language from another it is usually spelt phonetically over years and years and ends up looking like just another word but it's said like the original word just with an accent. English itself is the best example of this
