Through restrained and meticulous storytelling, it portrays Queen Elizabeth II’s journey from a young princess to a reigning monarch, and the difficult choices she must make between personal emotion and duty to the nation. Set against real historical events, the series weaves together internal power struggles within the royal family, fractures in marriages, changes in prime ministers, and shifts in global politics, revealing how the institution symbolized by “the Crown” shapes—and often constrains—individual lives. Beyond its grand historical scope, “The Crown” focuses on the inner loneliness and struggles of its characters, showing how royal privilege comes at a profound emotional cost. With its exquisite production, outstanding performances, and deep character studies, “The Crown” stands as an epic exploration of power, responsibility, and the human cost of wearing the crown.

On that same day there was also an IRA ambush on a British Army convoy killing 18 soldiers. Funny how no one ever includes that bit.
The irish used to say "13 dead and not forgotten, we got 18 and mountbatten"
Imagine oppressing a group of people for tens if not hundreds of years and then being surprised they put a bomb on your ship that you docked in their country 🤣🤣🤣
So tragic about the children
"You have to be lucky everytime. We only have to be lucky once."
everyone told him to get out of Ireland and he didn't listen 🤷
Well, on the bright side, Mountbatten wasn't Mountbattening any kids after that.
So sad about the kid and the boat boy😢 the rest idgaf
Man, it's almost like systematically oppressing people is a *bad* thing
People always decry stuff like this or the tsars or the french monarachs and especially when the children die. But they are responsible for systematic death and suffering on an unimaginable scale compared to individual people in which children have also died and suffered. In Ireland specifically, there are accounts of children dying slow, agonising deaths in the street, collapsing next to their families during the potato famine due to starvation, eating grass and seashells in desperation, orphans in the street and parents carrying their children to their graves. For every Mountbatten, hundreds of thousands have suffered hell on earth due to the actions of the British in Ireland.
I met Charles Dance once. A complete and charming gentleman. I told him he was wearing a lovely suit. I asked him if the tailoring was Italian. He said "yes:". I asked him if I could touch it and he let me. I have had a crush on him for nearly 50 years.
What is white and flies over the ocean? Lord Louis Mountbatten's tennis shoes... (Original joke from the period)
How ironic that Andrew had taken the Mountbatten name considering the “allegations” against him
Did it change anything? Doubt it
The Irish would say "13 dead and not forgotten, we got 18 and Mountbatten". The 13 referred to there were marching in a civil rights march when British paratroopers opened fire. 7 of them were 17. The British own investigation (incredibly the Saville inquiry) found the soldiers had lied about why and had no good reason. Yeah it's terrible that kids died on that boat, but Mountbatten didn't see any reason to leave the country and UK did not bring any charges against the soldiers until 2010! And this series does not even mention the event. At that point it's nothing more than propaganda. "Look how terrible the IRA was to the blameless royalty."
He who lives by the sword, shall die by the sword. But those innocent lives shouldn’t have been wasted.
Mountbatten was a Murderer. Particularly of Indians(India,Pakistan,Bangladesh) He regularly tortured innocent people claimed Tg hey were rebels or Freedom fighters.
The british didnt descriminate against who they starved.
Mountbatten you say. The one who harmed the young boys? Fair enough then.
LORD MOUNTBATTEN WAS A VERY BAD INFLUENCE ON CHARLES
