And he installed the lock upside down, which means the pins collect everything that drips down. Which increased his need for a weather cover. Minus one more point!

We would nail a piece of old rubber tire flap over the lock. Lift it up to key it. Keeps water out and you won’t lose it.

I was expecting him the seal it against the base of the lock. Unsurprisingly I was disappointed.

Locksmiths hate this one trick.

Or just use locks meant for the outdoors and oil it on occasion. Unnecessary hackdom.

This is actually an excellent way to make sure that once water gets in, it will never get out.

The plastic will not remain that tight around the lock. With no sealant around the base, it'll eventually funnel water to the lock and hold it there.

I've a few more reductions to take this into the negatives. There's a gap between the cover and the wall. Anything running down the wall is going between the lock and the cover. Enclosed space. You'd need a nice sunny day, and all that glue is going lockwards....
