After years of pushing you to play Gears of War.. now you gotta do Gears 2 and 3!
It's worth noting that the original Xbox 360 version feels a little short as it lacks the chapters in act 5 where you work your way up to and take on the Brumak. They're present in the GFWL PC port and also in Ultimate/Reloaded.

Because of E-Day, I recently played through the first four Gears games, and oh man, I really missed out on something there. Gears 2, in particular, is one of the best games I’ve played in my 25 years as a gamer. It’s just perfect from start to finish. After that, I tried Gears 4. I want my time back for that shit.

Shotgun in Gears is a blunderbuss - dive role right up to the enemy, give a kiss goodbye, and pull trigger. Any more than 5ft away it does jack all. Less than 1ft away, it blows most enemies into bits.
I think the shotgun works a lot better if you hip fire it close up rather than aim
The Gnasher (shotgun) is more effective when closing the distance and hip-firing; this is usually the rule in almost all Gears games I have played. (Haven't played the original in a long time though; it might be weaker here than in future entries)

the parts there you can decide which way are probably more interessting in coop mode, because one player takes one route the other the other route, that means you cant revive your mate on this section.
