Give it warm, unflavored Pedialyte or an ORS electrolyte solution drop-by-drop using a 1 cc syringe for the first few hours. 🍼 What to Feed (And What to Avoid) • The correct formula: Use Powdered Esbilac (Puppy Milk Replacer). Mix it at a ratio of 1 part powder to 2 parts warm water. Ensure there are no clumps. • Foods to strictly avoid: Never feed cow's milk, goat's milk, human baby formula, condensed milk, or any solid foods like nuts or fruits. These will cause severe diarrhea and death. ⏱️ Feeding Amount & Schedule • Amount: A 3-day-old pink, hairless newborn has a tiny stomach. Feed only 0.5 to 1 cc (ml) of warm formula per feeding. • Frequency: Feed the baby every 2 hours around the clock (both day and night). 🎯 Correct Feeding Technique • The position: Hold the baby horizontally on its belly or slightly inclined upward. Never feed a baby squirrel flat on its back like a human baby. • Slow delivery: Use a 1 cc oral syringe (without a needle) or a syringe with a Miracle Nipple. Let the baby lap up the fluid drop-by-drop. If you push the plunger too fast, fluid will enter its lungs (aspiration), causing fatal pneumonia. Mandatory Elimination (Post-Feeding) • Stimulate the baby: Newborn squirrels cannot urinate or defecate on their own. Their mother usually licks them to trigger this response. • The method: After every single feeding, dip a cotton ball or soft tissue in warm water. Gently and repeatedly stroke the baby's genital and anal area until it passes urine and stool.
