X Repo Garage Kept His Ford Ranger for 6 Years, Said It Was Sold, Then Demanded R55,000! Mr X Takes

Autos and Vehicles

A man comes to Infinity Viral after taking his Ford Ranger to a garage more than six years ago. He says he paid R15,000 for the repairs, but the car never came back. The garage owner told him the vehicle had been sold, yet the owner believes this is untrue and suspects the garage wants to use the car for itself. The garage then reportedly demanded R55,000 for electrical work, which he describes as feeling like buying back his own car. Mr X stepped in, took the garage owner’s Audi A4, and made him sign an agreement to pay the full price of the Ranger within two weeks. This is the owner’s account only. The garage owner has not been heard, and his suspicion has not been proven. This episode of Infinity Viral is a long, in-depth commentary on what happens when a garage turns a customer’s vehicle into leverage. We explain a repairer’s right of retention (lien) and why holding a car until you are paid is not the same as selling it. We also cover why extra work must be quoted and approved, what the Consumer Protection Act says about estimates, why a six-year delay is a red flag, and how prescription can make old disputes harder to prove. Plus, the lawful route to recover a vehicle or its value: a written demand, a SAPS case if the car was sold without consent, the Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa, the National Consumer Commission, and the Magistrate’s Court. Watch till the end for full commentary, criticism and education on protecting your vehicle when it is in someone else’s hands. Note: This story is based on the vehicle owner’s account only, and no conclusions are drawn about the garage owner. The legal information is general and not legal advice. Please consult an attorney, the Motor Industry Ombudsman or Legal Aid South Africa for your own situation. 🔔 Subscribe to Infinity Viral for more real-life justice stories, community intervention and consumer protection commentary every week! 👍 Like, comment your thoughts respectfully, and share this video with anyone who has left a car at a garage.
