Memorize after understanding, break down formulas to understand them then memorize them. 5.timed practice, practice under pressure, for solving maths is not just knowing the solution, but it is also mastering the ability to think and solve under pressure. 6.teach-back what you learn, explain it to siblings, family members, friends or even imaginary students, as explaining a topic in your own words increases your understanding and strengthen it. 7.consistency beats intensity, so study maths everyday for at least 20 minutes, as daily exposure rewires your brain Finally, it is not about being SMART, it is about SYSTEMS, STRUCTURE, MINDEST An "Error book" is a great system the Asians use, they take down their mistakes in this notebook, and review it once every week, not to shame themselves, but to analyze their mistakes(as we said before) Hope this is useful:)

A breakdown for future reference: 1. Internalize math through obsessive practice until mastery. Practice, practice, practice. 1.1) 1 problem, 3 different methods, e.g. quadratic equation (problem), solving through quadratic formula, completing the square, factorization (methods) until hard becomes easy (mastery) 1.2) focus on the basics longer than the average person does. e.g. covering fractions, multiplication tables, and long division until its very easy. 2. Notebook method - 1 side for solving problems - 1 side for mistakes (error tracking) - mistakes are the best teachers. analyze and reanalyze your mistakes. e.g. silly mistake? did you rush too fast through it? was it a conceptual misunderstanding? 3. Go 1 step further than "Don't memorize, understand." 2.1) understand, e.g. where does this formula come from? how is it derived? what does it mean? don't just accept it, interrogate the material. -- also use the teach-back method. explain the material going through it step-by-step (to yourself or anyone). helps in pinpointing your mistakes in your understanding. 2.2) then memorize, e.g. drill it until it becomes 2nd nature. (my suggestion: actively recall it, over and over again). 4. timed practice (for speed) - simulate the exam before the exam **Consistency beats intensity**. it rewires your brain to adapt to math. review your mistake book, problems, understanding, and memorized knowledge. basically, iterate through all the steps several times.

Most people didn't do the first and the second step, because most people didn't choose to put full focus only in math, we all know we learn more than one subject throughout our lives, and most people choose to deal with every subjects equally. Few people like me for example will do these 3 steps NATURALLY because we love not just math but also the logic behind everything.
