Texas Supercell Hailstorm | World's Wildest Weather | S01 E05

I grew up in Texas and still live here….2 years ago we had a tornado a few miles away with baseball hail x 30 mins…When we all came outside there were birds who were injured//bleeding fallen from trees, leaves stuck against the siding, no power, broken glass…..we all barely got inside in time. the next two months it took that time to get all the trees picked up and the roofs replaced - never seen anything like it

We live next to Rowlett and Wylie, Texas. Rowlett and Wylie also border each other. We very much remember both storms. The hail storm in Wylie was worse than then described here. The hail in some parts of town was larger than grapefruit size. My boss’s home was hit by these very large hail stones. He said that they were blasting through the roof and ceiling like cannon balls. This storm also had heavy rain. So they got water damage all over their house. My wife and I drove through the area three days later. We saw cars and trucks with all windows shattered. Dents so big and so many that these vehicles were total write offs. Cars sitting in garages were damaged by these hail coming through the ceiling. There were even brick mail boxes that been damaged by the hail. By this time many roofs had been covered by blue tarps. But Home Depot and Lowe’s must have run out of tarps. Because a number of home owners had to resort to nailing aluminum roasting and baking pans over the holes in their roofs. There were storms the next few days with heavy rain that added to the damage. We had heard that a church just north of the town enter was damaged. Driving north on the main street going to that church. We did not see any damage. We drove past the church a few blocks the turned around. That was when we saw that all the windows on the north side and even the siding on the north side had been obliterated. It looked like every square foot had been hit by machine gun fire. For the Rowlett tornado on the day after Christmas in 2015. I remember that Christmas Day was very hot and muggy it was 85 degrees and seemed like 85 percent humidity. The next day was supposed to be the same. But a cold front was coming that would cool things down the day after that. That December 26th I remember was 86 degrees that day. There had already been warnings for three to four days beforehand that we would have strong storms that day. By the time of the six PM news. They were giving storm updates fairly often. Then about 6:15 the said radar had picked up rotation south of Rowlett moving straight north. Basically towards our home. My wife and I soon took up residence in our bathroom. Listening to the radio while in there. We heard that a large tornado was on the ground. Also if was bearing to the east some. So we knew it would miss us. When the 10PM news came on we started to see just how bad the tornado(s) had been. It hit an interchange of two highways. There is a flyover ramp that is about 2/3rd of a mile long and 40 feet in the air that he tornado hit. It threw cars off of this to the ground below killing a few people. One woman was on her phone to her husband telling him she was in a strong storm and could barely see much. He heard her scream as her car was thrown off the overpass. I am sure that none of the people in those cars knew there was a tornado in the area. This happened about five minutes after the first report of radar picking up rotation. Next to this interchange was small two story apartment buildings that were heavily damaged. Then the tornado went over part of a lake the hit a residential area destroying a number of homes. By now the tornado was an EF4. It crossed another part of the same lake the hit even more homes. This tornado continues on past Rowlett for a few miles but most of that was in the country. There were other tornadoes that night in the area that hit other small towns in the area

The 1994 Albany Ga flood took our entire house and we had to move to a different state. Major floods at night are scary.

I wish I could share pictures on this app. We lived through that storm and wound up having to get a new roof and had major damage to our minivan.

A "meteorologist" (Clare Nasir) claiming the Enhanced Fujita scale goes up to EF6 (34:46). It most definitely does not. EF5 is the highest rating. Her credibility just tanked.

When that supercell stalled and started dropping grapefruit-sized hail, it was like a localized bombardment. Great job capturing the rapid escalation from 'pebble-sized' to 'home-destroying' in such a short window.

I grew up in Texas and survived close encounters with six tornadoes. Baseball-sized hail. Hurricanes. Now I live in Maine, and I don’t miss that stuff at all! I’ll take cold and snow any day over that Texas weather.

I remember when Wylie was hit by a very powerful high end F3 tornado on Mothers Day in 1993. One of the most beautiful tornadoes I’ve ever seen. From my vantage point it was a big bright white looking cone moving harmlessly through the farm fields before impacting Wylie.

Awhile back I got a new car. I had a Dr's APPOINTMENT in Milwaukee. Clear sky's all the way up. Got to the office and huge hail storm blew in. This app was for a pre operation. I wasn't even paying attention to the Dr. He could have told me that he had to remove my heart and liver. ( not true) I was just looking out the windows and wanting to cry
