It still blows my mind that one of the few people to ever go to the Challenger Deep was James Cameron.

I’m convinced that since some of the fish still have eyes, even though it’s pitch black down there that their eyes have adapted to be hyper sensitive, so when we go down there with flashlights, to them it’s a blinding nuclear blast of light ,so they just avoid us

The part where he actually starts explaining what they found starts at around 18:25. Even then it's mostly talk about common fishes for another 2-3 minutes. That said, really nice and interesting video. But the title should have been "The history of deep ocean travel" instead.

I am dumbfounded, that our governments spend billions of dollars on space exploration, and have little to no idea what the depths of the oceans hold. Would it not be sensible to investigate our own planet first?

Essentially, it's a good thing that these places are so difficult for humans to access. The fact that space is easier to reach can be seen in the amount of debris already floating around there.

It's probably better that we know little about these places so that life can thrive undisturbed. If we accidentally discover some large quantities of needed minerals those fragile ecosystems will be turned into dust.
