How to Learn to Code in 2026 (Without Wasting Time)

Self-taught, then got a degree, then tutorial hell and finally figured out what I was doing wrong. The why and what is crucial, and you have to be honest with yourself whatever that may be. Next understand how you actually learn (videos, tutorials, docs, small sprints, getting into the flow, etc). Once you have that figured out test out a few languages and see which one makes the most sense to you and enjoyable. Lock in and block everything else out! Tell AI what you want to learn, how you learn best, and your timeline to completion. This was the only thing that worked for me. I don’t need every minuscule detail of a programming language, you can pick that up when you need it. You need a base understanding of how it works, how it all fits together and why. That’s it. I know there’s a million ways to accomplish the end goal, but hope this helps the right people that need it. This approach gave me a positive feedback loop and real progress

I've been going to a coding school since 3 years (18 rn) and all the teachers just teach you the raw, boring things, so I really asked myself over and over if this is even what I want to do. But now I actually enjoy it, and coded a very simple little game that simulates the average schoolday at my school but in a funnier way. Thanks alot, you are the goat 🙏🙏🙏

i started my path only about a month ago learning java in the eclipse ecosystem and to be honest i just started it out without knowing much about why, but what i did know is that i actually enjoyed it and just kept on going so far (and hopefully it lasts). in a world where AI is taking over rapidly i do get the sense that learning code these days could be ultimately useless for profit but on the other hand i feel like i could still work something out.
