Today I saved an elderly neighbour a small fortune by fixing her dryer. She was going to buy a new one but I knew the issue. It was a dead capacitor. Mind you, being a PC engineer I don't know a lot about dryers. But after four hours and about eighty screws being removed I fixed it. The part was £8.80 and she insisted I took £20 for my trouble. My good deed for the day. I persuaded her not to buy a new dryer as they're not as good quality as a Hotpoint that is twenty years old.

I do the same thing but I'm buying tossed electronics from a recycling center and sell them after repairs. Ebay prices are way too steep and For parts/as-is means that repair was attempted multiple times and they messed up the internals real bad so selling and claiming they know nothing about its condition is more profitable than telling the truth. Ebay 101.
