You've reached the end
Vegan food is best when it isnt trying to imitate something else
I can already hear Gordon screaming "IT'S FUCKING RAW"
"taste like a marinated mushroom" couldn’t imagine why
This doesn't need to be equated to a steak at all! Just enjoy the mushroom for what it is, and if you want steak, have steak!
Steak: "Look at what they need to mimic a fraction of our power."
As an ex-vegan this was something I definitely had to explain to fellow vegans and non-vegans alike which is a lot of these foods are good, but you are never gonna make a mushroom taste like a steak or a carrot like a hot dog
i just invented a carnivore carrot, take a hotdog, dye it orange, now its a carrot. ignore that it only barely looks remotely carrot-like, tastes completely differently, and has a different texture.
In my restaurant we also use iron supplement powder, mushroom powder, tamari and nutritional yeast to give it a boost in the meaty flavor. Try it!
The issue with a lot of these vegan imitations is that they were developed for tiktok, so most of the time they prioritise getting the look right over the taste or the texture
If you really want a mushroom to mimic meat, go for using one of these mushrooms Chicken of the woods, beefsteak fungus, or pink oyester mushroom. (Pink oyster mushroom tastes amazing when cooked like bacon, and using bacon grease can enhance it, its not required for vegans)
If i want veggies i'll take veggies, if i want meat i'll take meat. Not this amalgamation straight out of recipe section of the Necronomicon.
Fun fact: we are more similar to mushrooms than mushrooms are to plants. Edit - i think some people are confused because the reason we are similar to mushrooms then mushrooms are to plants is because we share a more recent common ancestor as of plants and not because of anything else.
There is no easter bunny There is no santa And there is no vegan steak
I have a shellfish allergy, but I recently found a recipe for lions mane mushroom cakes which are supposed to taste like crab cakes. Definitely worth a try
I feel like a lot of these come from the fact that people who haven't had meat in a very long time have forgotten it's actual taste and texture
i’m surprised tyler didn’t turn it into a grill cheese sandwich
Veggies truly shine on their own. I dont follow any system of belief when eating, just whatever tastes good and makes me feel good, so I eat about 85% veggies. Every time I’ve tried a vegan meat substitute, I wish I’d just gotten meat instead because it simply is part of a balanced diet, and they don’t taste the same at all.Something as simple as kale, throw it in a pan with some water to steam it. Once the waters gone, turn up the heat and add butter, garlic, and your favorite seasonings with a splash of savory sauce like Worcestershire or Soy sauce. Takes like 10 minutes to make a huge pan full of delicious greens, tender yet still with a bite to it, and packed with almost everything the body needs.
Tbh a vegan version of something else is very rarely good for someone who isn’t vegan but foods that are just already vegan are mostly pretty good.
The amount of people who believe "beef juice" is a thing is concerning, especially when "beet" is right there and not a far fetch.
Food without meat will never taste like food with meat. It can still taste good tho
