Which side of the grill grate goes up, the flat or the V shaped side? In this video I quickly show you which side goes up and hopefully settle any doubts you have while setting up your new grill! I have a Weber E-210, but this same grate direction should apply to other grills as well! -- Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to see videos first, and LIKE this video if you found it helpful! Questions? I feel dumb. Ive been using l weber since 2003 and i been grilling with the grates upside down. Wow
The Weber site says they are reversible and can be used either way “One of the exciting features of the Genesis II line are the reversible porcelain enameled cast iron cooking grates.” “One of the exciting features of the Genesis II line are the reversible porcelain enameled cast iron cooking grates. One side of the grate is thin, the other side is wide and flat. The thinner side of the cooking grate is ideal for delicate foods such as fish and shrimp, while the wider side creates thick sear marks enhancing the texture and flavor of your food.”
Thank you!!! Been doing the wrong way for a year!
Thanks I have been doing it wrong as well 😁
I've owned a Genesis for about a month and I've experimented with both the pointed and flat sides. There's actually pros and cons for either method. I find with the pointy side up you get thinner but perhaps more defined sear marks on steaks. The pattern you can achieve on a piece of steak looks crisper because the lines are thinner. The flat side, however, is easier to clean and offers more surface area. So I guess you can really just use whichever side gives you the experience you want. You're not gonna poison yourself using the "wrong" side.
I tried both ways but your right, flat side up works better -good video!
Me too. Been using up side down 😅😅😅
Both can be used. Thinner for light protein like chicken and fish. Wide grill for steaks and chops.
If I may quote from the movie Wild Hogs “there are no rules man”. That being said I’m a flat sider and proud of it!
Ha.. I've had this argument with most of my grilling buddies! Always flat side up, you're 100% correct!
Thanks for sharing. I've been wondering about this too. So, feeling better about myself now 😄
Thank you! Just assembled my new Weber today and needed this question answered you rock !!🍻
So needed this thank you so much
Thanks man, this question has been on my mind for years. I can tell everyone that if you are going to cook fish on your geill flat side up is the only way to go!
Thanks!
Hahaha yes! Thanks!
Wow so lucky to this thank u
Thank you so much for the clarification. I'm a new gril owner and I had that question.
I went to my local big box store yesterday and all their grills with this style grate were installed V-side up. I believe you are correct with flat side up.
i just recently discovered this as well...after 25 years of grilling...
