And these are the same 'brilliant' ppl who ask why aren't people having kids...
I'm not even part of these companies or related to AI, but I got laid-off today. Economy is fucking miserable.
Meta is probably laying off everyone who worked on that god awful metaverse
“A system designed for looting” is capitalism in a nutshell. What did we expect.
Stop AI washing the layoffs. "AI" is being used as an excuse to cut costs/workers to inflate profits while the economy is self destructing
10% control 85% of the stock market, it's not a reflection of anything, except the whims of entitled speculators.
We are really going to be F***ed Most people make between 40-60k working full time barely making ends meet. We all have jobs that could be replaced with the help of AI. Anxiety and depression is through the roof in all major cities. I personally have no idea how to hedge against this inevitability. I have 3 kids under 11 years old. This is really frightening
I’m an engineer and work for a company that is going all in on AI. It’s kind of useful, and I do think it ups productivity a little especially in writing code. (Great for prototyping) But it’s not an end all be all. Im not sure what is happening but I think companies are pretending AI allows them to lay off workers. Just like wolf of wallstreet. It’s all Fugazi. The war is increasing prices, AI cost a ton but is showing little return for most companies in the AI space(hardware companies are making a killing, but not really AI companies like open AI and META etc) , yet the stock market isn’t in an apocalypse mode. The lay offs are to pump the stock one last time.
No layoffs at Raytheon.
AI layoffs is just a coverup for the bad economy.
Layoffs, price hikes, buybacks…America financial engineering 🇺🇸
these are not AI layoffs, these are plays using AI as an excuse to increase stock value - ask meta about their METAverse project costing 90B
It's not AI though, it's poor management of finances and bonuses for the CEOs. The remaining staff has to take on more work with the same unreasonable expectations. Most of the companies are going through the same bs
CEOs seem to be yelling ME NEXT, LUIGI
They say it's AI but they're lying. It's the economy.
It's obvious to anyone who is paying attention, the AI layoffs are just a mirage, an ILLUSION, to hide how bad the economy is, these layoffs are happening because companies can't expand or even keep their workers, and are desperatley hoping AI might counteract it, but it won't. It's just a recession with the word AI taped over it.
The Internet is lousy with commenters wanting to take a bullet for their capitalist bosses over an economic system where it's now the norm to lay off people not because your company is about to go under, but because it could be making even more net profit for the owners
And with nobody working, how will we afford the buy the products or services that the one percenters sell?
In all seriousness, we're getting closer and closer to dusting off the sickles and pitchforks.
One of my co-workers made a brilliant point. He said what sounds better to investors. We are laying off people because of AI or Versus we are laying off people because the economy is sucking?
