As a trainer myself, this is how I would desensitize my horses (this is my opinion and it’s what works best with the horses I work with.) 1. Let them smell, bite (if it’s an object), and lick it first. This will get them comfortable to the object. Once they seem unbothered, go to step two. 2. Walk them around, over, and (if object is tall enough) under. This will let them get to know the object from all angles. Once they seem unbothered and comfortable, move to step 3. 3. Rub and move the object (NOT AGGRESSIVELY.) around the horse, if they move away with fear, let them. Letting them move away will teach them that they can have their own choices, but once they just move away because they don’t want to do anything, make them stand still. Making them stand still when they are scared will bottle up that fear. Once they are comfortable and unbothered, move to step 4. 4. Now you can get a bit more crazy. Move around, throw, and set the object (if it’s not heavy) onto the horses back. If your horse is not broke to a saddle yet, this can help with saddling in the future. If your horse is NOT comfortable, please restart this process. 5. After your horse is comfortable with all this, now you can get dumb. Rub, smack (if it is not hard), shake, and annoy your horse with the object. The main areas you should do this is to the face, between the legs, behind the legs, under the belly, and above them. This process doesn’t work with all horses, but it works with mine. Tips- take things slow, don’t flood them with information. I have more tips to breaking horses in, but this is my go to with desensitized :)

Number seven is abuse, flooding to be exact and number three just probably doesn’t have a tie up and the rest are ok
