In 1994, Japanese engineer Masahiro Hara developed the QR code while working at the Japanese company Denso Wave. At the time, factories needed a faster way to track automobile parts. Traditional barcodes could not store enough information, so Masahiro Hara created a new type of code that could hold far more data and be scanned rapidly from any angle. That invention became the QR code.
