You've reached the end
Owners view small dogs aggression as cute because they aren't as dangerous, so they fawn over it, baby voice, praise etc, the dog learns being aggressive and loud is GOOD ACTUALLY. This never happens with bigger dogs because they actually can hurt you.
so basically, dont spoil your dog 😭😭
THE real issue is that people who get these dogs do not want a dog. They want a doll, a fashion statement or "baby replacement". And thats simply not what these dogs want or are meant to be.
They also dont get to have boundaries much of the time. They growl and people think its funny and the behavior gets worse.
Exactly. People demonize these small breeds (like chihuahuas), and while I understand where they're coming from, understand the issue lies with PEOPLE. The owners are the only ones capable of showing a dog what behavior is appropriate where. I've had plenty of chihuahuas with wonderful personalities and temperaments because dogs are amazing and will flourish in the right environment. Give them structure, exercise, don't antagonize them, and be firm. Boom, perfect dog.
Its not just spoiling the dog. A lot of people don't respect small dogs boundaries and body language, so some dogs eventually learn that the only way they can get their personal space respected is by snapping and biting.
I honestly feel so bad for small pets, I feel like they’re treated badly more often
I always thought it was a defense mechanism, like "I'm so small that bluffing is my only option so I might as well bluff big"
my old neighbor was a cat person for ages and got a chihuahua puppy during covid lockdown. her kid and my siblings were close enough in age to already be friends, son were over there all the time. that dog got SO much socialization with us and with their cat siblings, she's to this day one of the chillest and sweetest dogs i've ever met. she still bark at passing dogs outside, but she doesn't act like she's bigger and tougher than them. they moved into the suburbs a couple years ago, so we don't get to see them nearly as often anymore :(
Cause to people it’s funny and cute when a tiny dog is angry, has behaviour issues and is trying to bite everyone. It’s not very cute and funny when that dog is big and can take a piece of your arm lmao
wtf that makes so much sense actually, ive never seen someone train a little dog, especially not the same way people train big dogs.
The demographic small dogs attract is people that want a child replacement to spoil rotten
Those dogs don't believe that they're big dogs. They're very much aware that they're small and they overcompensate because they can't trust that they will be treated with respect
Exactly.
EXACTLY. People who don't train their small dogs are one of my biggest pet peeves. Those are the dogs who will bite and get bigger, well-trained dogs in trouble.
A lot of small dogs also have serious anxiety issues, imagine being so tiny. Also a lot of people will low-key bully their little dogs for some reason and laugh off their aggression so it gets worse
Chihuahuas get a bad reputation unfairly because if you actually raise them like any other dog they're so funny and hyper and playful
I’ve always said this. What do little dog owners do when their little dog misbehaves? They just pick it up.
I grew up with dachshunds and to this day it still stuns me how many people forget they are HOUNDS. They have crazy prey drive, massively loud and frequent barks, and many of the dachshunds I've had dig like you wouldn't believe. But people think because they're 10-15 pounds that they're just ornamental lap dogs.
Some of these videos also have dogs being handled in ways they're not happy with so that's also a major part of the issue
