Believe it or not, but this is what the fictional "Airwolf" helicopter was supposed to be. A aerodynamic lifting body with a rotor that could 'disengage' when Airwolf switched to jetmode. Of course they had no way to fold the rotors of what was in reality a normal Bell 222 helicopter, but this was the concept for Airwolf as explained in the pilot episode.

This is a set piece in a Kojima game that will inevitably become part of the boss fight there.

There was an American animated series called "M.A.S.K." in the 80s. Its main villain's vehicle was a light attack helicopter that transformed into a jet fighter by folding its rotor blades and locking it in place, then the swept wings (tucked in during chopper mode) would come out. It was called, right so, the Switchblade. It was a boy's dream toy back then.

probably also the inspiration for the fictional aircraft from the toy line and cartoon series M.A.S.K. called the Switchblade which is a helicopter that turns into a fighter jet granted its helicopter mode has the normal rotors as a standard helicopter.

If the name's not trademarked, they should call this the Blade Runner.

I remember reading about this aircraft. It was one of those ideas which came up in the 50s and 60s which I would read about in the Eagle comic. Another one they wrote about was the aircraft which could land on water and then submerge like a submarine. It looked a lot like the F111. One of those ideas which sounded good but was never going to work. If the Fairey Rotodyne had gone into production the next stage was also to use the stowed rotor concept. As a gyrodyne which used hot gases to spin the rotor it was less complex than a conventional helicopter rotor so it would have been easier to stow the blades.
