KDE connect and local send are more than valid choices
Fascinating how Linus turned to ChatGPT to presumably make the task quicker and easier, and both of the other guys just navigated straight to the task by searching the start menu for "startup". It's a perfect example of how turning to an LLM can make you slower but make you feel like it helped. EDIT: A lot of people who are really eager to justify turning to the slop machine and waste several minutes without even trying to spend a few seconds thinking about the solution. LLMs have cooked your brains.
I think part of the confusion with Linux is that there are often multiple "default" tools. Like with file managers, mounting a network drive is easy if you follow a guide for Dolphin or Nautilus specifically, but it gets confusing when tutorials don’t match what you’re using. Same with formatting disks. "Files", GNOME Disks, GParted, etc. can all do it, just in slightly different ways, so beginners get hit with too many overlapping options. I’d usually say “just google the exact program you use, you wouldn’t follow a Paint tutorial in Photoshop”, but that assumes you even know there are multiple programs doing the same thing. That’s not really how other OSes work, so it’s not obvious to new users.

One of my gripes with the Linux experience is that if something is preinstalled I SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND IT BY ONLY SEARCHING ITS FUNCTION, like if I want to edit a video and there's an editor already installed, have an alias in search calling it "video editor" or "clips" or I'm not gonna freaking know it's there lmao It's not just a Linux thing tbh, but it's very common to get the "oh you should already know there's Skurk preinstalled in this distro to export videos" lol
KDE Connect is a valid choice. Using wires to transfer files from your phone is caveman behavior.
Props to Linus for going with the flow and trying software alternatives, makes it much easier. Luke and Elijah goats as always too. The challenges were reasonably difficult so that failing to do them in 15 minutes isn't a big deal. I'd struggle to export to smb share or find a well working rdp program in 15 minutes on either OS.

For better compatibility, if you are using a KDE environment try to use KDE packages like KDE Partition Manager, if you are in Gnome use GTK packages like Gparted. Or if you definitely have to use the other package at least use an auto contained package like Snap in Ubuntu or Flatpak in Fedora.

The pattern I'm noticing is that both Linus and Elijah don't want to spend any time doing their own thinking, they immediately default to asking AI for a direct answer (or pre-written ones on forums online) rather than reading and trying to understand (and learn about) what's right in front of them. Ironically, if they slowed down and bothered to pay attention to what they were actually doing they would've gotten all of these quite easily. I mean, fair enough if they're not this tech savvy, but trying to take shortcuts will only make things more painful AND confusing. Like yeah, no shit things are gonna be annoying if when a button doesn't immediately do what you want it to do you give up on the entire program and look for an alternative online. I'm only saying this because I think this is a problem most people seem to have nowadays (even outside of technology). We're only getting lazier and stupider with AI, expecting everything to be spoonfed to us and it's really concerning.
