Ironically like the tailwind creator, I was few years earlier responsible for making a lot of the web orange (I should not have made the default theme of jQuery UI orange...). This is great and all but who is maintaining the code.

My coding skills have atrophied considerably аs I adopted a nearly full AI workflow. To the extent that it's genuinely scary. My AI prompting skills have gotten noticeably better over the past 2 years such that I am able to get exact formatting and styling 99%+ of the time, but the moment the tools are unavailable when I'm trying to code without the AI help I can feel the pathways in the brain that used to be there straight up not responding. They're still there as you don't just "lose a skill" without brain damage but it takes time to build up the myelin sheaths back. I can no longer go in and modify a graph on the fly without it taking me ~5 mins when I distinctly remember over 5 years ago doing the same stuff in under 15 seconds. Pretty soon I'm going to cut AI out of my workflow because the regression has been severe and honestly scary. Productivity is still sky sky high compared to 5 years ago, but it's becoming more and more clear that these AI tools the moment they disappear for even a week, will absolutely obliterate global programming productivity and will be a wakeup call for everybody

As a senior ultimate nerd engineer and (because of that) department head of AI development, it is so damn funny to see how most of the world completely fails at understanding the implications of AI development. AI development simply speeds up the implementation process, which causes the codebase to speed-run against unmaintainability and maintenance-hell, unless those "unnecissary old seniors", who really understand engineering (learned by coding) create fail-safe guidelines for the AI agents and for their use, so that the devs do not only produce a high quantity of code, but actually documented and maintainable quality code. Because of that, I manually set up all the agentic development projects (I used the AI to reverse-engineer the specification and start from a clean slate), which now gives my devs. a high quality well documented well tested codebase. However, when you look away for more than one month, the AI has caused obvious degredation, which needs to be manually corrected via smart refactoring. Writing code by use of AI simply increases all the negative effects, while giving unknowing devs the feeling of "everything is ok". It is not. You have to make it ok.
