A lot of times open source companies struggle to maintain their code because of lack of resources and lack of funding to hire resources. In the past I've heard even frameworks like Django struggling to hire a single full time employee (not sure about its authenticity), so open source companies either move to support or added functionality for fee. Now this gave rise to open source as a marketing strategy for profit organizations. What are your thoughts on that 🤔
Unfortunately, open source isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. ( Ex: /zloirock/core-js/issues/548 ) The author of corejs (which has 17M weekly downloads on npm) added a postinstall msg because he was looking for a job (he’s been maintaining the lib for years in his own spare time) and basically some very entitled people got mad because it was cluttering up their logs (just turn it off or filter it out if it’s that annoying ugh). The guy who opened the issue is major jerk. You are using a software that’s FREE and yet have the audacity to complain just because of a minor inconvenience. Unfortunately, this is pretty common occurrence for every major OSS project. The community lacks compassion and take tools that they use for free (and depend on) for granted and when something breaks, they get mad and harass the maintainers. Lots and lots of sad and frustrating stories/exps like this plague the oss community.
