You've reached the end
250 mb for a hello world using electron
Qt QML is amazing and is pretty straightforward!!
this doesn't mention the fact that tauri, unlike electron, allows you to use web tech using the system's webview rather than bundling its own browser, and therefore is much lighter weight; important nuance to have
+1 for QT
-1, you forgot ImGui
Tauri helped us just ship a desktop for 600kb. Customer admins loved that so much!
New long form video up :) check it out!
Tauri v2.0 offers the best balance between performance, safety and platform agnosticism, all because it's written in Rust. That and we can use either plain HTML + CSS + JavaScript for the UI, or your favorite UI framework like React or Svelte or whatever.
Tauri v2 has mobile support too 🎉
*Cries in winforms*
Kotlin Multiplatform is one the well designed for cross platform application
For the love of God please never use Electron ever
The end had me dying 😂 the fact that it was so hard to keep a straight face says how “easy” it really is
i use Wails, it's like Tauri but the backend is in Go
Just started the video showing a GTK cube with switched colors and then proceeded to ignore GTK
Lewis can we have more videos like this one please ? This was a very informative video.
QT on KDE Plasma ❤
Qt is the clear winner.
What about avalonia ui?
If going for desktop only, Id use Iced, its Rust-based (unlike Tauri, there's no web bits, its all native) and is being used for the Cosmic desktop environment. This means i can have all the security and comforts of Rust, a decent amount of support, and no need for hacky inter-language bindings. If I wanted Android I'd probably use Flutter with Flutter-Rust-bridge. Dart is nice, Flutter is decent, and the bridge is pretty simple to use. If I'm going for IOS, no I'm not. I've also heard some people unironically recommending Godot for UI, as despite being a game engine, apps from it are STILL lighter than Electron.
