One thing I have seen is the greasr in the slack adjuster can go hard preventing proper operation... I would recommend pulling the afjuster pawl out and checking for hardened grease and if found clean it out and regrease I had a truck with the same issue but it had literally just been greased the night before by the shop after cleaning the hard old grease out I put the pawl back in and regreased it... It went another 1/2 million miles without issue and yes it got weekly greasing its just the old grease hardened and caked up in the adjuster housing over the first 1/2 million miles and was causing the adjuster to not work correctly

I was always taught to you as a brass hammer. A tap on the drum with the wheel on gives you a different tone after a while you understand the different tones until you know it's right. Fast and easy.

As a heavy truck mechanic adjust the brakes until they touch and you feel resistance then back off 2 1/4 turns or a half turn some people for the front Steer tires will back off 2 1/4 turns plus 1/8 inch turn under the theory if your brakes are going to lock up you want your Steer tires to lock up last so you don't lose control

Ran into this before they came back 3 times everything eas new I swapped drums and the got ride of the squeak so now if I remove both side now I just swap them every time asking as they are still flat
