Japanese one also has 5G just not the mmWave one so Japanese phone is fully normal besides sim and shutter sound

the shutter sound is only geolocked, meaning if you bring the japanese model abroad and insert foreign simcard it will be silent

UK phones are also different to US phones, we don’t have the antenna, because mmWave is not widely deployed, so we don’t need a mmWave antenna. we rely on Sub 6-GHz 5G. We also have a sim card slot, assumingly because most people use physical sims, and most providers don’t allow you to use on device conversion, some providers still don’t support eSIM at all, and it would be slow. Also our shutter sound plays when the phone isn’t on silent, doesn’t play when it’s on silent.

so the top piece is for 5G mmwave which is only really used in the us and other countries and most of the world use different 5G bands so its not necessarily. I also find it so weird that you dont have a SIM card slot 😭 i never had a eSIM ever

I think the shutter stuff applies to phones in korea too. Was said its people always filming or taking pictures of other people without consents (I think its more of creeps taking pictures of girls tho) which made it necessary that all smartphone manufacturers do that.

I have a Japanese iPhone and I can confirm that i can't disable the shutter sound without a SIM card. Once the phone connects with my SIM card, I can turn it off.
