crazy how much conviction commenters have without watching the video, which explains exactly how it was captured

Crazy to think we aren’t seeing the photons in laser beam, but only the photons that reflected out of the beam from air molecules. So the laser beam is actually ahead of where it appears to us.

5 billion frames per second, with a 1 pixel resolution is such a funny idea and it's really cool that you made it work.

probably worth noting that even if there was a physical shutter for each frame, it wouldn't have to be faster than light. As long as the distance the shutter travels per frame, is less than the distance the light travels per frame, you're in the clear. Speed involves a distance too! Not just time. Even if there were things that had to move really fast every frame (there isn't really, or the electrons I suppose), all that matters is they move less distance per frame than the light moves. I know you know this, but worth stating probably. As you say, the units don't compare, if you wanna compare, add a distance, no part of the camera moves more distance per frame, than the light moves per frame, so it's all fine.

it's easier for people to just assume it's fake rather than watch the video and try to understand how it works. we live in the era of doubt, not curiosity...

A still picture of your YouTube video has been my phones wallpaper since the day it came out. The one hitting the disco ball. Great video

It's easier to get an answer on the internet by having people correct you than by asking the question. I hate that it works, but it does. To all the people reading this: when someone is asking a question in the comments please respond. Just like you would respond to someone being wrong.

You made it SO intuitive in the long form video, they obviously haven’t seen that one

The fact that you made it work and that this wasn't produced from a lab is testament to how cool this is.

I mean, part of how this works in the first place is that you're massively undersampling a periodic process, leading to temporal aliasing that makes it look like the same beam (wave packet? pulse? I don't know the technical term) is travelling across the room, when in reality each frame (each pixel, even) is captured from an entirely different pulse. Edit: It's a really cool solution to a seemingly-impossible problem.

I had an inkling suspicion there'd be more to this project coming soon The OG vids have been getting HELLA suggested to me, so I'm assuming there's like scheduled/unlisted shorts And whatnot like this feeding the algo
