I've spent time going through technical details of the Donut Lab battery before, which claimed to be the world's first solid-state production battery. However, this video looks at the bigger picture around the claims, including the strange methods used to raise money from investors. It's bad. Hi! I'm Ryan - I started this channel during my PhD to share my passion of electric power and propulsion. I follow the journey of engineers making our energy cheaper, more secure, and more sustainable. The only thing that’s surprising is how long this has taken to come to light. Good investigation.
I knew it was too good to be true
44 minutes? My man ain't holding back 😅 Excellent investigation!
No one should be surprised.
This is some Theranos-level shit
This is my shocked face.
My invention is a battry when half empty is half full 😂
"Fake it 'til you make it" works really badly in hard tech.
About time! we all know how this was going to end!
I was hoping against hope that this battery actually existed, but deep down I knew it was too good to be true.
this is what I've been waiting for!
Everyone: Yeah, figured it was a scam Investors: Surprised Pikachu Face
Genuinely how did they expect this to go? This is an *extraordinarily* well understood science. We literally have solid state sodium batteries at the academic level. We understand how they work in pretty great detail...I'm just so confused.
This pairs well with the Louis rossmann takedown on battleborn batteries
Fraudulent companies that scam investors need to be stripped of all wealth and serve time in prison
Retail investors are partly to blame. They want to get rich quickly, and Donut lab gave them what they want. It was plain obvious when even the Chinese, people who typically avoid controversy in public, openly said it was a scam.
Proud of you for your passion and integrity on this issue. Thank you for bringing all this to us. Great vid!
I’ve never been less shocked about an investigation
Sounds like the Escalation of commitment is essentially Sunk cost fallacy crossed with cognitive dissonance
To the surprise of absolutely no one.
