That's DC2. When I originally installed gear in an Ashburn Equinix facility, the "new" building (which was nearly empty) was DC11. That was ten years ago, and it's already filled. They are presently up to DC22.
Hate the thumbnail but love the video. We had a local datacenter that could NOT keep up with the cloud back 10 years ago. They got bought out, and have not heard much from them any more. Really liking this series.

The very first map of the internet, included salt lake city. At the time, they couldn't connect UCLA directly to MIT without a repeater somewhere in-between, so it connected in Salt Lake City at the university of Utah. I started running fiber optics in 2006 when we were taking out satellite dishes and converting everything to a fiber optics back bone here in Utah. At the time, everything spliced into a "head end" at the salt lake city airport where the east west (roughly following i-80 from California to New York) and north south (roughly following i-15 from Canada to Mexico). I was pretty green when we tied everything together right next to the airport. I remember there were a bunch of higher ups with clip boards and brand new hard hats debating on where to get the fiber for the splice and how long it could be down. After about 2 hours of then debating, one of the guys came over to me and handed me a big set of cable cutters pointed to a spot in the cable and told me to cut it. As soon as I cut it, he said "good, now it wouldn't be my company that goes bankrupt if it's cut in the wrong place" and then everyone rushed in to get the splice done. After we finished the job and we were cleaning everything up, I was told that it was a million dollars a minute that the fiber line was down and that everyone was too afraid to cut it. Lots of the cables were actually still copper which needed to be amplified about every 2,000 feet. We ran a 288ct fiber from northern Utah to central Utah, pulling two fibers out for each major splice point for each city along the way. One fiber was the primary, and the second was backup in case one got damaged. After that "back bone" was replaced and switched over from copper, we went through and added extra fibers in a "ring" for redundancy and then removed all the copper cables and took down all the satellite dishes. I remember when we finally finished the salt lake head end, my ping times went from about 100ms down to 7ms, and for a short period of time, we had the fastest internet in the United States, 7 of the top 10 fasted cities in the world were in Japan (which I was told were already all fiber optics) and we were number 8. It was really cool to watch it all come together and really be involved in the process and see the real time improvements. I worked in a ton of fiber optic projects since then, including the primary contractor for Google fiber when they bought iprovo in Utah.
