It was the same with Deep-seek. Geopolitical pressure was applied to try to constrain growth, but instead those constraints sparked innovations that changed the playing field. Necessity is the mother of invention.

The awesome thing about science and engineering is the fact that limiting resources or things can make scientists and engineers think about the same problem in a completly different way then the ones with everything
9:21 TSMC isn’t claiming they can manufacture a logic gate that is 2 nanometer either, it is just “equivalent” because the whole industry hit a dead end at 22-14nm around 10ish years ago, before the numbers used to be real but now it’s just “equivalent” with tech such as 3d transistor designs
the real issue lays in the thermal management
Just a reminder: TSMC's "1.4 nm" won't literally mean 1.4 nm transistors. It's a marketing node that roughly reflects density and performance targets rather than a physical transistor dimension. Huawei is simply using the same density-based naming convention that the semiconductor industry has been using for years.
