The best printers IMO are tank printers, they use ink more efficiently and they make it harder for the printer to lie to you and tell you it’s empty when it’s not. For something small, though, the HP DeskJet 3700 series is a great form factor for a dorm.

The best one is a thermal printer. I have the Marklife X8. Its pretty good. No issues.

Get a brother laser or Canon laser or a ink tank printer like the Epson ecotank, Canon megatank, or brother investment tank. NEVER BUY HP.

I use the Canon imageCLASS MF665Cdw at home! It's an all-in-one laser printer that prints in color, has an Automatic Document Feeder, a scanner, double-sided printing, and one-pass double-sided copying! If you can find one on sale, I would highly recommend it.
