Protect your financial identity online with virtual cards. The Linux Challenge PT 4 is OVER! After more than 1 month using some flavor of Linux Linus, Luke and Elijah all sit down to discuss what they liked and didn't like about using it. While there are some cons (obviously) there was WAY more surprises and positives that all 3 experienced this time around. So much so that ALL of them are struggling with deciding if they are switching back to Windows or staying on Linux... 1. Thanks to the LTT team for doing this. It shines a BIG light on Linux. 2. Continue to critique Linux HARD. It helps facilitate positive change. 3. Do this challenge once a year. Viewership interest is through the roof. 4. Hardware and Software support will only come faster if you do. 5. Great series… (red) hats off!
Gotta start mentioning linux compatibility when reviewing products so they know it's a consideration, maybe influence better first party support
Elijah, I didn't believe you on that sleep thing so I typed sleep on my CachyOS machine and put my computer to sleep while watching the video lmao
Fun fact: HDR support was helped a lot by, unsurprisingly, Valve.
Soon were gonna get Linux Tech Tips
26:11 Would love if reviews that are done in Windows get a “how does it work in Linux” segment .. not only for the audience that’s transitioning OSes but also for the product makers to see that Linux compatibility is something consumers are considering as part of their purchase
Elijah sticking to linux was actually a surprise for me. Huge W
23:16. THIS. This is what finally got me to switch to linux and never look back. I was in the middle of a proctored exam during covid on a poor internet connection and my computer bluescreened. I quickly use my phone to message my teacher apologizing and promising I wasn't cheating to get back into the exam and I restart the computer and Windows immediately goes "HEY DO YOU WANT TO SUBSCRIBE TO OFFICE 365? DO YOU WANNA CONNECT YOUR PHONE? DO YOU WANT TO LOGIN TO A MICROSOFT ACCOUNT?", I then get to my desktop and I get a full screen unclosable edge window that asks me if I want to "occasionally copy my browser data over to edge incase I want to switch" all while I was under extreme time pressure as the exam timer was still ticking down and I swore and cursed at my computer until I got through all of it and finished the exam. That night I said f-you microsoft and wiped my windows install and never went back. Microsoft's bullshit almost prevented me from passing a math class and I have hated windows with a burning passion ever since.
I'd love it if this channel started to cover the "is this compatible with Linux?" perspective a bit more. I feel like putting pressure on developers would vastly improve the experience in record time, especially when it would be coming from a channel this big
Add a linux session on your reviews of products where possible. That would help the community A LOT.
Luke's middle mouse behavior is called the "primary buffer", and you can turn it off in KDE settings.
Don't hate Linux, hate Kernel-Level Anti-Cheat and DRM.
Would love to see a "Linux Support" section in reviews, it really helps make Linux better for all of us.
it would be ace if LTT could sponsor initiatives to smooth over the pain points
Its not the year of Linux. It's the year of Microslop
15:05 as a developer who has implemented Wayland screen capture (xdg-portals, those dialogs) i can tell you: THIS IS A OBS ISSUE. Obs does *not* store the authentication (token) it gets once you accept. Thats why it keeps asking. The devs just... forgot to store it.
Keep Linux gaming as a regular recurring series please! Doesn't always have to be a Linux challenge, maybe just different distro reviews, hardware comparisons on Linux, stuff like that. I think there's a lot of interest in the subject. Thanks!
"Issues I've encountered on Windows are there by design" - I think that's a great way to put why using Windows can be so frustrating compared to dealing with issues on Linux. With corporate software you just feel how much of the devs energy is spend on making user experience worse for the sake of forcing one specific way of doing things as oppose to embracing customizability which is the heart of using PCs for me.
Linux user for almost 5 years now and I enjoyed the perspectives in this video
To be honest windows NEEDS competition to force Windows to make actually good updates.
