Imagine thinking so high and mighty of yourelf that you are willing to let your kids be outcasts and you refuse to get help from anyone on the principle that "we aren't poor, I'm a good mom I don't need help from any man". If you don't have something or can't afford it and it's for your kids you take what you can get.

My mom was prideful. The first time we went three days without being able to buy groceries, she went for food stamps. She was turned away at the door. She had to take a loan out to get food on the table and went ahead and got enough for rent to. She paid it back but they still call her. Struggling with a family is hard; choosing not to be an ass to one seems to be harder for the world.

I hope I'm never too proud to accept help
