In 1972, Charlie Chaplin returned to the United States after 20 years of exile, banned during McCarthyism, accused of being a communist. He was 82 years old. The Academy invited him to receive an honorary Oscar. When he walked on stage, the audience rose and applauded for 12 minutes, the longest standing ovation in Oscar history. Hollywood finally said sorry. All footage used belongs to their respective movie owners. This video is made for educational and commentary purposes under fair use. And that was the last honorable, humane, respectful thing Hollywood has done.
This man redefined how movies where made never deserved his exile and was such a brilliant day 2 see a true movie legend get the recognition he deserved
Marrying 2 different 16 year olds didn't get him banned from Hollywood huh?
He was too intelligent for America, they dont like smart people
This is back when they had a backbone. These days, they sold it completely
Love his movies, even the talkies.
I think the 16 year olds he kept impregnating and marrying may have had somethjng to do with his exile too.
He deserved every minute. What an amazing man.
He didn’t deserve shit, he had two child brides and married his last wife when he was in his 50s and she was 18. Dude was a creep.
Hollywood loves their caviar communism
Turns out McCarthy was right all along. Not about him in general
I think it was mainly because he married various 16 year olds in his 30s and had 12 children
Hollywood didn’t say shit. The people in that room did.
He shouldn’t have accepted he caved in to Hollywood
Einer der größten unserer Geschichte!
bring back mccarthyism
Mccarthy was right
A sincere communist in 1952. Ran out one step ahead of a paternity suit. Married multiple women without getting divorce so he didnt have to pay child support or alimony. Gave a lifetime of support for America's enemies. A man equal in honor and integrity with a roll of toilet paper!
He may not have been part of the American communist party (he said he didn’t like being affiliated with clubs or political groups), he was most definitely extremely left leaning and had communist ideas.. he also refused to take US citizenship.. so it’s really no surprise they exiled him
Sad to see him cry.😢
