I will never forget when in 2008 I was 19 years old and completely broke after I fell off a scaffolding and broke my back and I was driving my car going to the doctor my registration was expired by 6 months and my insurance was not valid and my car broke down on the highway and after standing on the side of the highway for about 30 minutes an illinois state police pulled up behind me and I knew I was screwed because I could see him checking my plate before he got out and he walked up to me and didn't ask for anything he simply asked if I got towing on the way and I told him no that I can't afford a towing because I am broke and explained why. So he told me to get in the car put it in neutral and that he will push me with his police vehicle to the nearest exit and once we got there he told me that he has a mechanic friend that can come and get my car and tow it to his shop and he won't charge me and in about only 15 minutes his friend came and we found out it was the alternator but the alternator cost like $130 which I of course didn't have and the mechanic told me that Josh already took care of it and at first I am thinking who is Josh and than he told me that's the officers first name than while he was working on my car the officer came handed me $250 dollars and told me this is from the guy's at the station and told me to renew my plates and gave me a phone number for another friend that could help me get really cheap insurance and he did I was blown away I only paid $46 dollars a month for insurance but the thing that blew my mind the most is how much he helped me and the money he gave me. I wanted to show my appreciation by getting the story out there so he would be recognized for the amazing things he done for me but no news station wanted to pick it up, I guess because positive stories aren't as popular as negative stories. I think of that officer a lot of times and wonder where he is now. I forgot his last name because I could probably find him. I can't believe it's been 18 years already since that happened, it seems like yesterday
