It's crazy how many people will ride off-road w/ a drip line hanging out the bottom and never seeing if it has vacuum on it or not... They're bound to have a locked up motor because of it but they still never consider it. SMH

Amazing lesson to teach. There’s a huge difference between parts changers and real technicians. Always found out the WHY before you rebuild a motor.

Head tech hear at a local Florida kawi dealership. Never once seen this issue before. I’m just wondering how sand is entering through the crank case vent when it’s positive pressure coming out of the line. I could understand if it was a vacuum pulling the sand in but it just seems odd. Unless there submarine sinking the bike or something.

I remember taking my bike into a hop because it wouldn't idle. I suspected worn valves because I went through the carbs 6 times already. They said it was still, most likely carbs and did that anyways, still didn't idle. I'd later take it to a more local shop that confirmed it was in fact worn valves.

The other shop probably told him he needed a full rebuild the first time but he just wanted the head replaced and didn't want the "up sell".

Is there any way a check valve on that hose would be the fix? I feel like a filter would get too packed too quickly

A small inline fuel filter works great to keep debris from being sucked up the vent hose.

I think that piston pin height is the smallest I've ever seen. Like a damn hockey puck for a piston lol. I'm sure it revs to the moon though

There should be like a filer or something there to prevent sand from getting in but other stuff to get out or a one way valve

Re-route the vent hose to the airbox.
Charged for a rebuild and they never touched it
