You've reached the end
"Human beings are not cargo," - CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW HIMSELF
Davy Jones: Hey look, I might be a heartless monster, but by Calypso, I'm not even remotely close to being like the damned EIC
The funny thing is, as bad as they were in the movies, the East India Trading Company in the movies was actually pretty tame compared to their real life counterparts. The real East India Trading Company was much worse and were responsible for some absolutely atrocious things.
To be fair “better than the east India trading company” is a bar so low you need an excavator to find
Let it never be forgotten that Jack sparrow became a pirate specifically because the East India company ordered him to transport slaves People aren’t cargo mate
'Jones is merely cruel. I, perhaps, am guilty of the sin of omission' -Lord Beckett, deleted scene from At Worlds End
Look, the difference is one is _naturally_ an evil squid monster. The Brit had to _work_ to be that cruel.
I mean, when Jones went into a pact with the trading company, they didn't use him to do anything more evil than he already was doing. They just gave him a quota
If you know anything about the East India Trading company, it’s not that hard to believe.
Davy Jones upon looking at an EIC ledger “By Calypso they’ve killed more people for nutmeg than I’ve collected souls”
You could say one is the supernatural evil, another the natural evil.
To be fair, historically accurate East India Company was insanely evil, so they did a great job showing the tame PG version of it.
“People are not cargo mate” The best deleted scene ever in that one line it explains everything as to why Jack became a Pirate (you know outside of his Dad and Grandfather also being pirates)
let's be real tho, the East India Trading Company SHOULD be the main villain in any piece of media it appears
And the movie still underrepresents how evil the east India trading company was
Technically only _physically_ heartless, he very much removed it from his chest because it _otherwise_ bled so easily in pining for something that could never love him back “the same way.”
Davy jones? Nah he's cool. British man? Pure Evil.
Now that's what I call good writing!
My favorite part about this is that Davy Jones literally commanded an Eldritch monstrosity of the deep, and it was promptly killed the next movie because the small, white, essentially tax collector said “Nuh uh!”
well, with what the EIT did back then, they qualify for being a main villain, just ask their sibling company the Royal Africa Trading Company.
