I’ve come to the conclusion that a miter saw bench is best done with a portable frame with extensions for holding the wood level. If you build a table (like I didi), they become work surfaces and places to leave tools and supplies. You won’t have that problem with a miter saw stand.

Have you tried pickling onion rings? Start with a regular 123 mix (1 part 7% vinegar, 2 parts sugar, and 3 parts water, all by volume) Slice onions into rings(the center makes for small rings, so chop that up and use in something else) and place in cleaned and heated glass jars. Add any spiced you feel would enhance the taste, then pour the boiling hot 123 mix in and put on a lid. Leave in a cool place for a week. Some like to open the jars and give the 123 mix a quick boil before refilling the jars with it at this point. Another execellent use of red onions is of course making plum& onion chutney. No you can't have my recipe. The compactor is known as a 'Hoppetusse' here in Norway, which loosely translates to 'Jumping imp' ...

We used to tie the onions on a vertical string, usually baling twine.

If its simple Job, but loads of graft like digging out some ground, clearing brambles moving rubble or painting, I am happiest in a group, so much more gets done, If i'm making something and there are a lot of small decisions to take on many details, everyone else can do one, just let me get on with it

Yep I have done heaps of volunteer work over the years. But it helps if all are on the same wavelink and know what they are doing. But in saying that depending on what the volunteer job is, I like to get on with it, just as I do so when doing things at home as well 🙂.*

I am part of a team of 12 canal towpath volunteers. Great company, ideas, and chat, plus coffee and biscuits! The team are always looking for better ways to complete projects. Good workout for the body and the brain!
