Quick tip - three finger swipe on the screen (up down) for temperature control, (left right) for fan speed.
Try putting the original wheels on, you maybe surprised.
We have a y62 towing a 3tonne van averages 22 to 27 l per hundred
I don't own an electric vehicle, I don't own a caravan - however I do love watching you guys as you are so down to earth and honest and I watched this entire video because it was extremely informative - you have certainly done your homework Alex and so glad that you are happy with your vehicle (apart from the fuel consumption lol)
Brilliant video. No BS. No agenda. Just a great owners review with great things and warty things covered. I suspect that the economy fluctuations relate to the SoC of the battery. From 100% to your configured threshold you will get decent economy. Then, at a steady 100 km/h, the battery drains faster than the engine can replenish it, forcing the engine to run harder in an effort to maintain the threshold, which trashes the economy.
I love the way you explain all the bits and bobs. You are believable and I don’t feel like you are pushing your thoughts to others. Just real life experience and honesty. Thank you. 🩷💙👍👍
Be interesting to see how the Cherry Stockman goes
My 5.7L V8 uses less fuel than that and its nearly 30 years old weighs 2.5 ton empty 3.3ton and 6ton combined I would have expected a better performance considering the new versions 2020 on of my vehicle are 30% better.
No replacement for displacement when towing.
Ac or any command fix is to just ask BYD to do it for you. “Hey BYD, set Aircon temp to X degrees” or ask it to increase or decrease the air flow. You don’t need to mess around with the screen while driving.
Great review, but anyone planning to tow a 3.5-tonne caravan with the BYD Shark 6 (or any dual-cab ute) needs to hear this: Towing capacity and overall weight capacity (GCM) are NOT the same thing. If you hook a 3.5-tonne van up to the Shark 6 Performance, you only have about 375kg of payload left for EVERYTHING else in the car before you are driving illegally. That 375kg has to cover the driver, passengers, tow bar, bullbar, canopy, and all your luggage. A family of four with a few accessories will instantly put you overweight. This isn't just a technicality. During a recent weigh-in blitz by Queensland Police, a staggering 9 out of 10 (90%) of vehicles towing caravans were found to be overweight. A similar operation in NSW found that almost 40% of caravans tested exceeded their ATM (trailer limit), and nearly 1 in 5 rigs exceeded their maximum combined weight (GCM). Are people actually weighing their fully loaded vehicle and caravan before they set off? Mobile weighing services are everywhere now, and guessing your weight is no longer an excuse. If you get into an accident and you are overweight: 1. Insurance: Your insurer can completely refuse to pay out your claim, leaving you liable for your car, your van, and anyone else's property you hit. 2. Safety: Overloading destroys braking efficiency, handling, and stability, massively increasing the chance of fatal sway and rollovers. 3. Legal: If you cause a fatal accident while overweight, you can face criminal charges, including dangerous driving causing death. Police are actively cracking down on this. Just because a car says it can pull 3.5 tonnes doesn't mean you can pack the family and the kitchen sink too. Know your GCM and weigh your rig!" Wind. In the open out west, it makes a huge difference. Like a boat, the faster you go, the more resistance
I'll keep my 1987 LandCruiser.. 17 litres/100km towing 2500kg.. Had it for 22 years now, cost me 4k in repairs so far.. She's an olde but still goin...
😂 "Range fuel tank" They are thirsty sometimes aye. I feel like they'll update it and make it more efficient as we go though. I feel like the last update it got more efficient towing because of the way the charge profile works. People forget that in old cars you'd have to knock it back 2 or 3 gears to make a hill whereas the shark just keeps tugging. Keep tracking it at the bowser and recording your trips mate 👍
I have a Chinese 4WD with electric drive train and 2l petrol engine (Jetour G700). For daily city driving it's got epic economy, long highway drives uses as much as my diesel 2017 ranger, when towing it uses so much fuel it's absolutely terrible. You can save a lot of fuel by not putting it in the setting to conserve battery. Overall I don't mind how thirsty it is because I spend 330 days a year in the city and the fuel savings are absolutely worth it. However, I tow up mountain roads with steap inclines and some graded rutted sections and electric towing is a beast. My caravan is 1.6 tons
We tow with a y62 and love the car and wouldn’t change it we have come to accept the fuel economy. If you guys love the car you will accept it and you save when your at home and just using the electric Great video interesting to see how they new cars go
Great honest review guys .
THANKS for doing this for us! Its well documented that BEV vehicles can do bigger road trips by dropping their average highway speed. The energy used doing 85km/h is 20-30% less than at 100km/h. Towing a big blunt ended caravan at 100km/h I'm sure is easily 30% extra. AI suggests your BYD S6P would do 24 litres / 100kms if towing a average speed of 85km/h. But it is odd that the 2.5 litre engine doesnt do better (direct drive equivelent). Potentially all the efficiency losses are from the motor charging the battery, then the battery to the wheels.
Makes the y62 a fuel miser
Weigh the caravan especially the ball weight you might have a shock. We did...
