Today we're tackling a few more projects around the property, starting with removing an old quince tree and cleaning up our fig tree. What I thought would be a fairly simple job turned into quite a bit more work than expected! We're also spending some time in the garden enjoying the beautiful fall color and finally getting a few shrubs planted, including coralberry, St. John's wort, and red twig dogwood. Slowly but surely, we're making progress around here! 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻 Check out our Q&A channel: https://urlgeni.us/youtube/channel/RobbieMcMenomey (Affiliate links Below) Shop all my favorites on Amazon! 😃 https://urlgeni.us/amazon/Amazon_StoreFront Metal Edging: https://edgeright.com/visitourgarden V.O.G. website: https://www.visitourgarden.blog The best garden shovel https://urlgeni.us/amzn/MiniSpade Follow along on Instagram: 📸 https://www.instagram.com/robbiemcmenomey/ 🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼 Contact: For general info E-mail: [email protected] For business inquiries E-mail: [email protected] 🐌 Snail Mail: Robbie McMenomey P.O. Nearly every day I am beyond shocked at how much insect and critter infestation and damage there is all around your property. You are doing an amazing job eliminating the problems. Every step you are taking is definitely in the right direction. Finding your transition to country living to be so interesting. Hang in there and keep up the good work🌱
When I saw the room that opened up behind your garage, I immediately had a vision of a 3 sided lean-to the width of the garage for a working planting area and 'good pot' storage. Garden tools a nice long workbench with a stool to set seeds & plants. Room underneath for bins of soil, etc. "Robbies garden center" Easy shop & drop. I loved my potting shed and had a salvaged red brick floor, a faucet and all my fertilizers, amendments and entertaining decor. I ran a power strip out of the garage window for florescent lighting to work at night & power projects. Nice place, close to the house, to work in shade. Love how the planting is coming along. Beauty & life is creeping into this tired farm.
Just a word of caution: Garden Answers Laura thought she had enough space for Sumac, next season 1 plant was 6 and they were a beast to dig out. I suggest using a root barrier if you really want to plant it
You two are so much fun to watch and such a nice start to the day. And a source of motivation! Thank you!
That trailer has paid for itself over and over again. Love the new additions to the flower bed. The pink coralberry has got to be my fave.
Could we ride along with you to the dump? Gives an overview of ur new location and what’s around u for context.
Your new trees, especially susceptible ones like the birch trees, need treating once a year in spring with a systemic insecticide drench, it’s a a watered-in product, not a spray, so it only affects boring and sap-sucking insects not pollinaters
It’s fun to watch the progress, both what’s coming down and what’s going in.😊
We had several very large trees that needed to go and the guilt police had their opinions but we knew what was best for our land our situation. It was costly to remove them but we feel so much safer and at ease now. Besides with the several hundreds of trees we've since planted along with other smaller trees and shrubs we're still doing our part and you guys certainly are too, well done making choices for your own greater good ❤
Fig trees are notorious to regrow and renew, just give it serious pruning now, fall-winter time and you'll be surprised how much new growth it will push next spring. I'm borderline to grow figs, if we get harder winter, there's always freeze damage, I cut it out and they always regrow and renew.
Your property seems to be taking a nice deep breath it hasn’t in for a while. If it could smile and say thank you it would. Everything is looking good. Keep it up guys!
I can’t wait to get up in the mornings to watch your videos. I sit and enjoy my coffee and watch your video. I love you guys. ❤️
Do NOT plant sumac in the ground. You'll be sorry!
Do not apologize. You cut what you need to cut. Besides, that Quince tree looks a bit janky! 🙃
Morning Everyone 🍂🌻🇬🇧🌻🍂
Robbie, your Tiger Eyes sumac is absolutely stunning in its autumn colors! ❤ I can certainly understand why you love it. We've spent 30+ years dealing with staghorn sumac that spread onto our property from the neighboring forest. We eventually hired a tree service to remove about a dozen mature trees, and we're STILL battling the suckers! To add insult to injury, spotted lanternflies have invaded our area here in Connecticut, and sumac is one of their many host plants. I realize Tiger Eyes is a smaller, less aggressive cultivar, but I think you're wise to enjoy this little beauty in a container for now. 😊 As always, I love watching you and Brent bring your wonderful property back to life. It's my favorite way to start the day! ❤
You should take some of those large branches off! It probably needs thinned out so it can get air to the center and breathe. That way you might save it.
The Twilight Zone had a scary episode about earwigs….nuff said. Someone planted a sugar maple in my front yard and I wish I had cut it down several years ago. I hate cutting down trees too…but now it’s 40-50ft tall, needs iron injections every 3 years, covers the front of my house if I don’t prune the branches up like 14ft, and a huge mess when the leaves fall.. My point…better to cut things down now when manageable..
You two are killing it with all you are doing to the house and the property. Remember every time you do something to clean it up is just one more thing you don't have to worry about down the line. its looking so good. I am sure your neighbors love to see the house and property come back to life. I love that coral berry and also love the look of the hardwater on it. almost looks like a Christmas variegated holly? not sure which one, but so pretty. Genie :)
Noticed when you were planting the shrubs, no cardboard bits came up (or maybe to hard to see on camera). Has the cardboard paper you used for weed control already decomposed? Your videos make my day every time! Thanks for sharing your journey with us and please give Freya a hug from Virginia.💗 My Zoe passed away last September and Freya always makes me think of her and smile🐾
