They’re trying to say racism isn’t a thing anymore, and the mention of racism is creating it. And the ones saying that is a bunch of old white people and a black guy who takes bribes. In the 90s there was a lot of well meaning intent to raise children “colorblind” but all that did was make it harder for privileged white kids to recognize racism, because it discourages noticing how race shapes experiences and systems. It can also lead to dismissing others’ experiences, misunderstanding history, and focusing only on intentional prejudice while missing more subtle or systemic forms of racism. This ruling is so backwards and illogical and harmful it’s unbelievable.

I live in Alabama. They called a special session so fast it was insane. Why? To get rid of the current map (that 2 years ago they were forced to change because it was racially unequal) to get rid of any minority voting areas. Racism is still on full display in the South.
