Many African and Asian countries have banned the recruitment of domestic workers for countries in the Middle East who subscribe to the “kafala” system. Under the system, foreign maids are legally bound to their employer and have limited rights. Employers can take advantage of their position and many women are overworked, underpaid and physically abused. Testimonies from women who escaped and private recordings show a world of powerlessness and abuse, hidden behind closed doors. i'm saudi arabian, and our family dosen't get maids because we too believe its modern slavery and that it should be stopped. but other saudis, abuse thier maids in every possible way, and the saudi goverment and the kenyan goverment isn't doing anything about it.
I’m a Syrian-Arab and I’m ashamed of ;and can’t even explain how deeply sorry I am for this inhuman treatment that some Arabs are treating the African people or any other races . I just hope that everyone would be kind enough to try not to generalize everyone and know that in every group there is the good and the bad
I'm a U.S. citizen. Recently I spoke with a woman here from Ethiopia who'd applied for work in Saudi Arabia and the U.S. both. She first got an offer from Saudi Arabia and almost went but held out for a U.S. offer and is so glad she did. She told me that from the day she arrived in the U.S. everyone has treated her well here and over 7 years has graduated from job to better paying job steadily. She recently attained citizenship in the U.S. and is so proud to be American. She told me "I can only imagine what could have happened to me in Saudi Arabia."
As a muslim and as a Saudi woman..i’m heartbroken and sad about this..for as long as I remember we have had maids in my household from different ethnicities..however we were taught by our elders to treat them with respect and compassion and we did..we built friendships and bonded with them, some of them became like mother & sister Figures to us (me and my siblings) to the point that most of them wanted to extend their stay..and when they left they stayed connected to my family after they went back to their countries by phone calls, social media and some of them even visited us during hajj season..it’s frustrating to see that other people (who are cruel and inhuman) represent muslim and arab people. I just wanna say the we are not taught to be cruel like that ..these people only represent them selves and their beliefs and I hope they get their punishment and if they didn’t karma will get them.
This is heartbreaking. Seeing those men talk about Kenyan and ghanaian girls like that made me sick. These poor women and girls.. I feel so helpless.

The Agents know exactly what these girls are gonna face at the end. If they care they would have a support system that if thier client is suspecting an abuse they should be the first help to the ladies. If a country don't respect their own weman and they don't have womans right what makes you think you will have a human rights.
This is not only happened to afican workers. It happened also to us (filipino) when we work in the middle east. Yes that's true. I'm working to kuwait since 2016 to 2019. And my employer really good for me. But after 3 years i decided to work in dubai and that time in my first employer i experince from him to slapped me. It's look like hes not a human. And then we decided to run away and go to phililppine embasy.
Some Arabians don't even respect their wives and women in general, who are you to be respected? Stay away!
I'm Lebanese and just don't go there if you're a maid. It's basically slavery in disguise
